VWIB/VJC awarded $400K OTJ Training Grant |
|
The Verdugo Workforce Investment Board (WIB) was recently awarded a $400,000 grant from the State of California to assist 40 long-term unemployed people with on-the-job training for electronic medical records and manufacturing jobs. The definition of long-term unemployed is 22-weeks or longer. The electronic medical records field is a fairly new, fast-growing field that is creating new jobs to help the health care industry transition to electronic medical records. Manufacturing has led the economy in its recovery and has also started to create new jobs. Through this grant, the WIB is able to subsidize the wages for on-the-job training of employees up to 90%, depending on the size of the employer.
